I thought this was the best place for my own story! The About Me section touches on the fact that Isabella never slept, in fact she screamed all day and most of the night too! I had used makaton during my work as a nurse and had seen for myself how a world of communication was opened up for children with special needs. I researched babysigning and the idea of being able to understand why Isabella was crying seemed like the answer to me. I took Isabella to a class from 6 months of age but she didn’t sign back to me until she was 10 months old. To start this was discouraging but I preserved and soon realized that she was gazing into my face and watching my every move. If we went anywhere new I begun to notice her watching my hands and face to see what I was going to call it. Her first sign to me was more – and boy did she know when to use it! ‘more drink, more food, more Jessie Cat, more story, more singing along, more dancing!’

She loved the nursery rhymes with signs and even today she will still sign her way through all her favourite songs! I have said before I am sure her language skills now are down to the interaction, talking and signing I did with her from such an early age. I just love babysigning!
